A fire at a Gaffney apartment complex has left 12 people without a place to live.

The fire happened at the Huntington Square Apartments on Huntington Square Drive around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Gaffney Fire Chief Jamie Caggiano said that eight apartments at the complex were damaged as a result of the fire, displacing 12 residents.

A woman who suffered severe burns was rescued by a neighbor from her apartment. She was later airlifted to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta due to her injuries.  Officials say she suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns.

Images from the scene show that the outside of the building was left heavily charred. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents who were displaced.

The owners of the complex are planning rebuild.

Officials are ruling the fire accidental.
