The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 1.7 magnitude earthquake at 1:09 a.m. Monday about three miles from Ladson. That's 89 miles southeast of Columbia.

The depth of the earthquake was four kilometers.

A magnitude 2.5 earthquake or less is usually not felt, but can be recorded by seismograph.

Spartanburg County Emergency Management notes this is the 13th recorded earthquake in the state in 2013.
