Liberty, S.C. -

The City of Liberty will soon have more money to pump into the community.

Governor Nikki Haley sent a letter to Mayor Michael Sheriff this week, informing him that Liberty will received $500,000. The money is a community enrichment grant from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.

City officials plan to use the funds for infrastructure and streetscape improvements on Commerce Street in downtown Liberty.

The South Carolina CDBG Program is designed to provide assistance to local governments in improving economic opportunities and meeting community revitalization needs. It's been funded through the state since 1982 by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
