The annual game ball run for the Clemson-USC game is underway.

Sigma Nu fraternity brothers gathered around The Esso Club early Thursday night as they started the challenge that so many before them have found grueling - running the game ball to Greenwood to meet up with fellow Sigma Nu brothers from the University of South Carolina - who will take the ball the rest of the 138-mile route for next week's game. About 60 Sigma Nu members from Clemson were expected to take turns carrying the ball on the trip to Greenwood, where they are expected to arrive around 4 a.m. Friday to meet with their USC counterparts for breakfast.

Proceeds from this year's run will benefit four charities. It is one of the first events held each year before the rivalry game.

Dozens of people gathered Saturday afternoon to rally against the state's "Stand Your Ground," law, saying it amounts to "legal lynching." The group, Moms Demand Action, said the South Carolina law, first passed in 2006, causes gun violence and is exploited as a defense.
