S.C. Jobless Rate Drops to 5-Year Low In October

South Carolina's unemployment rate has fallen to it's lowest mark in more than five years.

The Department of Employment reported Friday the October jobless rate was 7.5 percent. It was 7.9 percent in September.

This is the lowest the rate in South Carolina has been since September 2008 and the closest to the national rate since September 2002. The national unemployment rate in October was 7.3 percent.

The number of unemployed persons was 162,613. There was an increase of more than 3,400 employed people, but nearly 4,000 others left South Carolina's labor force.

Here are the unemployment rates for counties in the Upstate in October:

Union - 10.4%
Cherokee 8.8%
Abbeville - 8.5%
Greenwood - 8.3%
Oconee - 7.5%
Laurens 7.3%
Spartanburg - 7.1%
Anderson - 6.5%
Newberry - 6.4%
Pickens - 6.1%
