MORGANTON, N.C. -
Officials with the U.S. Forest Service say the combination of wet weather and efforts by firefighters has nearly contained the Table Rock wildfire.

A statement issued Monday said all U.S. Forest Service roads and trails under the Forest Closure Order are now open, including Table Rock Picnic Area.

Weather forecasts call for below freezing temperatures, so hunters and others using the Linville Gorge area are reminded to use standard safety measures with campfires.

Rifle deer hunting season opened Monday, with portions of Linville Gorge opened for access. But hunters asked to look out for new hazards from the fire, such as weakened trees or areas that are still smoldering.

The Table Rock wildfire burned nearly 2,600 acres. It started Nov. 12 in the Pisgah National Forest in Burke County.
