Upstate Black Friday Shopping Begins Earlier Than Ever

Lines wrapped around the Best Buy in Spartanburg before its 6:00pm Thursday opening as shoppers got a jump on early Black Friday sales.

Major retailers pushed their opening times earlier to attract more customers.

At the Gaffney Premium Outlets, more than half the stores opened at 8:00pm. That's an hour earlier than usual.

"Every year they show up earlier and they're asking for earlier, so that's what we're giving them," Sharon Campbell said.

Campbell is the general manager at the Gaffney Premium Outlets.

While the stores opened earlier in the day on Thanksgiving, the holiday season is actually starting late for retailers. Thanksgiving falls at the very end of November this year.

"This is the big night, this is the night that all the retailers are waiting on," Campbell said.

Some people said that the earlier opening times help them stagger out the shopping and cuts down on the rushing that can create chaos.
