FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. -

A Fountain Inn man turned himself into deputies Sunday after investigators say he murdered his stepmother.

John Wendell Pruitt Junior, 46, is charged with murder by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office in the death of 53- year old Sandra Nelson Pruitt.

Her body was found Sunday morning around 9:00 a.m. when deputies were called to a home over a reported shooting at 393 S. Nelson Drive.

GCSO investigators say Monday John Pruitt had an altercation with his stepmother, grabbed a shotgun and shot her at least one time.

John Pruitt turned himself into deputies on Sunday. He's being held at the Greenville County Detention Center under no bond.

An autopsy on the remains of Sandra Pruitt is scheduled for Monday.

John Pruitt appeared before judge Sunday night, but his bond will be set at a later date.  He was also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
