UNION COUNTY, S.C. -

More than a dozen people have been arrested on drug charges, a majority meth related, in Union County Monday.

Sheriff David Taylor is calling the county-wide bust Operation Holiday Blues. They say it has been ongoing for several months.

Deputies say most of the suspects were trying to buy more than the allowed amount of Ephedrine or Pseudoephrine, an ingredient used to make meth.

Investigators say they’ve busted 22 meth labs this year alone. That’s twice as many since last year.

Sheriff Taylor says the county will continue to fight the war on drugs.

He said his team is cracking down on "mules" also known as "smurfs." Those people usually fetch the supplies for the meth manufacturers in exchange for a pay-off.

These people are used now that drug stores are tracking the purchase of the psuedoephedrine drugs. People are limited to 9grams per month.
