A firefighter was injured as fire destroyed a home in the city of Gaffney Wednesday night.

The fire broke out around 9 p.m. at a home on Sycamore Street.

Firefighters with the city of Gaffney responded to battle the blaze, which damaged the inside and outside of the home.

Several other Cherokee County fire departments responded to assist with the fire as Gaffney firefighters fought to bring it under control.

Gaffney City Fire Chief Jamie Caggiano said that the firefighter had to be transported to the hospital with minor injuries. He was released shortly after midnight.

Investigators say the fire is believed to have started inside the home's attic.  The cause is still under investigation.

A spokesperson for the American Red Cross said that the resident of the home was displaced and was being assisted with their needs.
