Mauldin's Dre Massey is the 7 On Your Side Star Of  The Year in a vote by a panel of 10 area high school coaches.

The senior quarterback passed for 2,793 yards and 28 touchdowns while completing 64 per cent of his attempts while rushing for 2,043 yards on 245 carries, averaging 8.3 yards per carry and scoring 34 touchdowns.  He guided an offense that managed less than 34 points in just two of its 12 games for a Mauldin team that finished 7-5.

Massey also returned a kick-off 99 yards for a touchdown in a victory at Spartanburg. 

He received five of the 10 first place votes and compiled 19 overall points in the Heisman Trophy-style voting process among 11 candidates.

Byrnes quarterback Shuler Bentley finished second with 10 points, receiving two first place votes.

Wren quarterback Kelly Bryant placed the highest among three non-seniors on the ballot, finishing sixth. 

None of the 10 coaches who voted had a playder up for consideration. Each had faced at least two of the 11 finalists this season.
