TELFORD, TN (WJHL) - Hassie McPeck, 16, found “Buddy” the beagle on the side of the road in Johnson City. "He was in a ditch, laying, could not walk. So then, I went over there and he was wagging his tail trying to come to me so I picked him up and put him in the passenger seat of my car," said McPeck.

Hassie not only rescued Buddy from the side of the road but from his previous owner as well.

"He was going to shoot him the next day. Because his leg was broken. Like you could tell his leg was broken and he was no good for no use to him so he was going to shoot him, " said McPeck.

Buddy was hit by a car and sustained many injuries. But Hassie calls the beagle her Christmas miracle because if buddy didn't die at the hands of his previous owner, he could have easily died from his injuries. "We had to amputate his leg. A lot of dogs his size that get hit by a car do have internal injuries that they don't survive from so he is very lucky," said Veterinarian Lisa Webb.

Now Buddy has a home, and although he may have lost his leg, he gained a family.
