Homeowner Shoots, Kills Suspect In Attempted Home Invasion In Anderson Co.

PIEDMONT, SC - A suspect is dead after an attempted home invasion and shooting in Anderson County early Monday night.

The incident happened at a home on Wren Road, near Moore Road, in Piedmont around 6:45 p.m.

According to Lt. Sheila Cole of the sheriff's office, a man attempted to break into a home and in doing so shot the 78-year-old homeowner in the abdomen. The homeowner managed to return fire and struck the suspect as he was fleeing the scene in a black SUV.

After the victim was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.  The suspect was dropped off at the hospital suffering from a gunshot wound in his leg and chest. 

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said that the suspect, Rahim Shakur, died at the hospital.

The victim went into surgery and is now listed in stable condition.

Shore say Shakur was just released from prison after serving 13 years for a shooting and carjacking incident.
