12-Year Old Girl Killed In Fountain Inn, Teen Boy Charged

A 12-year old girl is dead after being shot to death in Fountain Inn and a 15-year old boy has been charged in the case.

The Laurens County Coroner reports Hope Alexandria Fair, 12, from Gray Court was pronounced dead at 7:32 p.m. Sunday. She died from a gunshot wound to the head according to the coroner.

The Laurens County Sheriff's office says the shooting is being ruled accidental.

Deputies say a 15-year old boy has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death. He was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice where he will await a court appearance in Family Court.

The Laurens County Sheriff's Office tells us deputies were called to 181 Hanging Tree Road in Fountain Inn in reference to a shooting around 6:30 p.m. Sunday night.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim. She was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital where she died from her injuries.

Lt. Jawarski Shelton says the first call was made by the suspect who said he came into the house after hearing a gunshot and saw the victim laying on the ground.

Later, a second call came from a girl who said she was inside the home and witnessed the suspect shoot the victim. The witness said the suspect was going to hide the gun. 

Lt. Shelton says the suspect later admitted to accidentally shooting the girl while loading a magazine into the weapon.

Investigators have recovered the gun.

The 15-year old boy was charged after the investigation by the Laurens County Sheriff's Office along with SLED, Laurens County Coroner's Office, and Eighth Circuit Solicitor's Office with the assistance of the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.
