GREENVILLE, S.C. -

It's easier than every to jumpstart your job search and market yourself to employers.

Websites that used to cost thousands to build cost next to nothing now, even free. And some are so simple you can do it yourself.

We got expert advice on what makes a successful site and how you can build one for little to no cost.

Drew Botka works in digital marketing in Greenville and he's coded many a website. But when he went to make his own page, he chose a web builder called Strinkingly.com that he says is so easy, anyone could use it.

"It's something that I could throw together in 2 days, it looks good, it's clean and you know, gets the point across."

Strikingly.com is one of a growing number of sites that are making it easier than ever for anyone to market themselves online including photos, video, text, you name it.

David Chen the CEO of that site says he's noticed a trend among the most successful pages that get the highest traffic.

"The websites that works best usually are the ones that are more simple, more straight forward, more directly to the point. They have one line that people are going to take away and remember what it is, and one call to action that people are going to do," said Chen.

He adds, a short story line is also effective, telling visitors not just what you're doing but the greater purpose behind it.

He sites this page by a man named Gary Sheng as one of the most successful, because it's depicts the essence of who he is in short simple paragraphs, and includes photos that help tell the story.

Like Sheng, instead of a whole resume, Botka kept it simple with a single statement about what makes him tick, and samples of his work, along with a way to reach him.

The site has already landed him a contract job.

"They saw what I did for my personal site and liked it enough to contract me to do one for them," said Botka.

Sites like Wordpress.com, GoDaddy and Squarespace.com are just a few others that all offer beginners a chance to build their own site.

And many, like Strikingly, give you the first page for free. The tradeoff, your domain name will include their name, as well as a "powered-by" bar at the bottom.

But with free and easy options, Botka says there's no reason not to market yourself online, and if your looking for a new job or a move up, there's every reason to do it right away.
