Ty Greene scored a career-high 27 points and had six assists to lead USC Upstate to an 84-70 victory over Lipscomb Saturday afternoon from the Hodge Center.

Greene went 6-for-9 from three-point range to help Upstate knock down a season-high 13 treys and finish 54.2 percent from beyond the arc. Torrey Craig registered his second double-double in as many games and finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

Fred Miller added 11 points and three rebounds for this third straight game in double figures.

J.C. Hampton led the Bisons with 17 points and four assists, while Malcolm Smith finished with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists. Martin Smith and Talbott Denny each had 11 points.

Denny gave Lipscomb its largest lead of the game midway through the first half when his three-pointer put the Bisons ahead 17-11. Upstate used a 10-2 run over the next 3:28 to take a 21-19 lead capped by a three-pointer from Craig.

The two teams went back-and-forth over the next five minutes before Hampton put Lipscomb ahead 33-29 with one of his three 3-pointers. Back-to-back three-pointers from Craig and ShunQuez Stephens ignited a 10-2 run to close the first half and put Upstate ahead 39-35 at intermission.

After a Greene three-pointer to open the second half, Lipscomb began to chip away at the Upstate lead and cut the deficit to two points after an old fashioned three-point play from Martin Smith just over four minutes in.

Greene answered with a three-pointer on the ensuing Upstate possession to push the lead back to five points. Josh Williams pulled Lipscomb to within three points, 57-54, with a layup midway through the half, but Upstate used a 13-4 run thereafter to open up a 70-58 lead with 8:22 remaining.

The Bisons managed to climb back to within seven points on a three-pointer from Khion Sankey with just under five minutes remaining. Upstate, however, scored the next six points and quickly pushed its lead back to 13 points with 3:18 left to play.

The Spartans used free throws during the final minutes to secure the victory and claim its fifth straight win over Lipscomb.

Upstate looks for its third straight win Thursday night when the Spartans travel to Fort Myers, Fla., to take on Florida Gulf Coast at 7:05 p.m. from Alico Arena.
