HOLLY HILL, SC -

Authorities responded Tuesday afternoon to reports of a baby that was discovered on the side of Highway 311.

A baby was found Tuesday afternoon on Highway 311 just off 176.  The baby is a four month old female.

The baby was checked by EMS, is alright and is now with her family.

Authorities say  seven unknown males with guns forced their way into the residence on Catamount Road forcing three adults and six juveniles to the floor.

One of the gunmen struck a 52-year-old woman in the head with a gun while she was protecting her grandson. A 4-month-old was taken from the residence.

According to police, this was a targeted crime.

Renee Gilliard wasn't home at the time but told News 2 she was horrified to learn the only thing the intruders found was her baby girl.

The baby was gone for about two hours before she was found in Berkeley County by a passerby who saw the criminals discard the child on the side of the road.

Gilliard said she doesn't know who the men are but is thankful her baby wasn't hurt or killed.

Police are searching for a Red Chevrolet Impala with possibly two black males and a Green Ford Explorer related to this case.  Police say these suspects could possibly be armed and dangerous.

Officers have not determined why the child was taken and they continue to search for the suspects.

Gilliard said she doesn't know who the men are but authorities say it appears it was a targeted crime.

Authorities say if you have any information related to this case call 911 or the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.

7 On Your Side Investigations uncovered new documents that detail a “politically sensitive” proposal for overhauling the Greenville County EMS system. The plan would change the way ambulances respond in a 9-1-1 emergency and would give control of the life-saving service to the county's largest hospital chain, Greenville Health System.
