HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. - Henderson County Sheriff's deputies arrested one of their own Saturday morning.

Deputy Daniel Lindsey, age 27, was arrested just after midnight Saturday, at his home in Mountain Home.

He's charged with three felony counts of sex offense with a student. Lindsey was a school resource officer at the Balfour Education Center. Sheriff Charles McDonald said in a news conference Saturday, investigators have no reason to believe any illegal activity took place on school property.

Sheriff McDonald said he's "sickened" by the charges. "That's a very sensitive position, any law enforcement officer is, but particularly those that are entrusted to the welfare of students," he explained.

The Sheriff's Office tells 7 On Your Side, it learned of the allegations shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Friday. An investigation began immediately, resulting in Lindsey's arrest.

Lindsey had been an employee of the Sheriff's Office since September 2008. He was terminated at the time of his arrest. The investigation continues, and more charges are anticipated.

The Sheriff said Lindsey received a $45,000 bond and was transported to the Transylvania County Sheriff's Office.
