GREER, S.C. - A man wanted for leading Greer Police officers on a chase and shooting at them early Saturday morning has been arrested.

Lieutenant Eric Pressley of the Greer Police Department said that Denis Brandon Kearney, 30, of Mauldin, was arrested by the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force Saturday afternoon.

Kearney was wanted after the Dodge Durango that he was driving was pulled over by Greer Police at 12:20 a.m. for suspicion of driving under the influence. Pressley said that Kearney then sped away from the traffic stop and officers began chasing him.

During the chase, Kearney began firing a weapon at the officers, Pressley said. Greer Police continued to pursue the vehicle and requested the help of Greenville County Sheriff's deputies as the chase left the city limits and went into the county. The pursuit ended on North Highway 14, near Jordan Road, as Kearney fled from the vehicle.

Greer Police Officers, along with Greenville County and Spartanburg County Sheriff's deputies began to search the area, but Kearney was not located. The search continued throughout the early morning hours and most of Saturday, until Kearney was located just after 3 pm.

Neighbors living on Cockrell Road tell us the think Kearney was going door to door, looking for a place to hide. One man said he knocked on his door early Saturday morning.

Justin King lives near Cockrell Road and went over to his brother's home to stay the night. He said he and other neighbors didn't get a lot of rest worrying about Kearney near their families.

"Someone could have been killed," said King.

King said he left his brother's home around daybreak but saw Kearney on the road. He said he didn't pick him up but noticed someone else did and followed that vehicle to the Spinx.

"I was on the phone with the cops the whole time. I described the truck and saw he was laying in the truck bed," he said.

Greenville County Sheriff's Office said the U.S. Marshall's Fugitive Task Force arrested Kearney. Greenville County Sheriff's Deputies and first responders were at the Spinx as well.

Pressley said that Kearney has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a weapon by a felon, failure to stop for police and discharging a weapon at an occupied vehicle.

Kearney had a bond hearing on Saturday night on assault on an officer and drug charges. Total his current bond is $31,000. Kearney has not been issued bond on attempted murder charges.
