GREENVILLE, S.C. - A man on a bicycle was killed in a hit-and-run accident in the city of Greenville early Sunday morning.

Greenville County Coroner Park Evans stated that Abraham Elijah Bookhart Jr., 33, of Greenville, was riding a bicycle in the westbound lane of the 2900 block of Laurens Road at 2:45 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle left the scene before emergency responders arrived. 

Greenville Police Department spokesman Johnathan Bragg said that officers located the driver of the vehicle, 33-year-old Damian Jermaine Hughes, of Greenville, on Ridge Road and took him into custody. Hughes has been charged with hit-and-run involving death.

Bookhart was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:21 am.
