Greenville Closer To Banning Hand-Held Cell Phones For Drivers

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The city of Greenville is a step closer to banning drivers from using cell phones.

Council members unanimously passed the first reading of a hand-held device ban during Monday's meeting.

There will be a second vote next month. If it is approved, no one driving a car, motorcycle, moped or bike would be able to use hand-held devices starting in April. Fines start at $100.

Also during Monday's meeting, council gave final approval to a measure allowing customers to have drinks with liquor while sitting at a sidewalk table at a restaurant. Current ordinances only allowed beer and wine.
