GREENWOOD COUNTY, S.C. - Investigators believe an electrical issue with a sign caused the fire that burned down a popular Greenwood sports bar.

Fire officials responded to the Sports Break Bar on Montague Avenue around 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The blaze caused extensive damage throughout the entire restaurant. Most of the main room sustained heat and fire damage, while the rest of the building was damaged by heat and smoke.

Greenwood Fire Chief Terry Strange says someone was in the back of the restaurant when the blaze sparked. However, it took a while for the smoke from the fire to filter back to the area where that employee was located. When it did, he called 911.
