Aerial Search For Missing Laurens Co. Man Begins

Posted: Updated:
LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. - The aerial search for missing Laurens County man Billy Joe Garrett began Thursday morning.

Sheriff Chastain says they are conducting an air search today with DNR and have a few officers from DNR and Sheriff’s Office on ground.

Crews searched for Garrett for several days after he was reported missing by his family last Wednesday.

Garrett, 82, was last seen near Highway 25 in Honea Path wearing a blue flannel shirt and a brown Carhartt jacket.

Garrett stands around 5’10”, weighs around 180 pounds, has long gray hair and suffers from dementia.

Search crews from several agencies have utilized helicopters with heat-seeking cameras, K9 units, and crews on horseback and foot.

Sunday, deputies announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the location of Garrett.

Anyone who may have seen Garrett is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or the Laurens County Sheriff's Office at (864) 684-4967.
