A Simpsonville woman has been charged after an incident where she wound up being shot in the chest.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office charged Margaret Lee Wharton after the shooting at a home on Kelsey Lane Wednesday.

Investigators say Wharton was arguing with someone and the confrontation turned physical. Wharton pointed a firearm at the other person, but wound up being shot in the chest in a struggle over the weapon.

A five-year old child was in the home at the time.

Wharton was shot in the chest, but was treated for her injuries. Deputies believe she was the aggressor in the incident.

Wharton has been charged with unlawful neglect of a child, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

She was released on bond.
