Two men stole a heating and air unit from a home in Piedmont Saturday but because of two neighbors the crooks didn’t get away with the loot according to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.

Neighbors in the Piedmont neighborhood tell 7 On Your Side they've noticed a strange blue truck driving through the neighborhood lately. Saturday night the Sheriff's office says two men in that truck stole a heating and air unit from a home. According to deputies people living nearby say the crime and jumped in the truck to stop it.

The suspects hit the neighbors truck and the two crooks got out running into nearby woods, according to an incident report. K9 officers and the County's Air 1 responded to help search for the suspects but deputies couldn't find them.

The truck and HVAC unit are being processed as evidence.

The crime has left the neighborhood on edge.

"It makes me completely nervous," says Michelle Clardy.

Clardy says she and her neighbors will do a better job keeping watch for each other.
