EDMOND, OK (WFLA) - An 18.2-foot-long female python has been captured in the Everglades.

The snake was found by Billy Eldrige from South Florida Water Management (SFWM) when they were conducting a routine canal/levy inspection 25 miles west of Miami Dade off Tamiami Trail. The python was found five miles north of there.

The python was transferred to the UF campus in Davie for necropsy to determine the cause of death.

SFWM is looking into what the python has been eating and whether or not the female had any viable eggs.
