The second part of a massive snow storm is barreling into the Carolinas and Georgia. Dispatch centers are ready but asking people to only call if there is an actual emergency.

When people call for non-emergency issues it jams up the phone lines says Anderson 911 Center Director Steve McDade.

“ We need them open for the citizen that need the help,” McDade says.

Instead call non-emergency numbers like 211 run by the United Way. They can help you find out basic information like where you can find food and shelter once they open.

If you aren’t sure if you’re dealing with an emergency or not, call 911 to be on the safe side, McDade says.

Highway Patrol also has a series of numbers for you to call if you have problems on the roads. If you see ice or snow on the roads you can report it by calling 511. If you are in an accident but not hurt call *HP. If you are in an accident and hurt then call 911.

Remember to be patient, it will take longer for emergency crews to get you because of the storm.
