SPARTANBURG, S.C -

Authorities say a set of barefoot prints in the snow led them to a Spartanburg County woman who says she was beaten by her boyfriend.

Sheriff's deputies say they responded to a report of domestic violence early Thursday at a Campobello home. There, 69-year-old John Joen said his girlfriend had stabbed him with a fork before fleeing the home wearing only a nightgown.

Authorities say the woman ran barefoot through the snow to escape. Deputies followed the footprints for about a mile before they found the woman hiding in another home.

The woman was treated at the scene. She said she fought with her boyfriend, who choked her before she managed to escape.

Deputies say Joen was charged with criminal domestic violence. It wasn't known if he had an attorney.
