RALEIGH, N.C. -

Nearly four months after an accident at the North Carolina State Fair almost took his life, the final victim of the Vortex ride was released from the hospital.

Anthony Gorham was released from the hospital Wednesday after an accident on the Vortex ride at the N.C. State Fair on Oct. 24.

Anthony's wife, Kisha Gorham, offered the update on a YouCaring fundraiser page established for the family. Along with Anthony and Kisha, Kisha's son Justen and a niece, Shykeyma, were also injured on the ride.

Kisha wrote, "My niece is still struggling with her back injury, Anthony is still recovering, and J[usten] is continuing to deal with the emotional impact. As for me, I'm still believing [in] God for a total healing; spirit, soul and body!"

The family was among five people injured when the Vortex jolted into motion as people were exiting the ride.

Eyewitnesses estimated that riders were dropped from as high up as up to 30 feet, and an EMS source said all five were initially unconscious, but three regained consciousness.

Prosecutors said in a court appearance in December that a key safety mechanism was tampered with. The state said ride owner Josh Macaroni asked operator Timothy Dwayne Tutterrow to stand behind him and make sure no one was watching while Macaroni installed jump wires.

Investigators took dozens of photographs, which are reflected in the report. They show the yellow chairs involved on the ride, the control panels used by operators and the mechanical parts of the Vortex that operate out of view.

Some photos appear to show wires that are disconnected, and another shows a fuse that appears to be blown.

Tutterrow was arrested two days after the accident and later indicted on three counts of assault with deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury.

Macaroni was charged Nov. 6 with two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and third felony assault charge of assaulting a juvenile, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Both men have been released on bond.
