Simpsonville Police say they arrested a man who tried to make a getaway following a court appearance Wednesday.

Police say a man being held in the detention center had made an appearance in court today. As officers were attempting to put him back in the police car, police say he "decided he didn't want to go back" and fled on foot. Police say he didn't get far and they were able to capture him in a nearby field.

An officer attempted to pursue the suspect in a police cruiser and damaged it while driving over the hills in the field. The suspect gave up at that time.

The unidentified man was transported back to the Greenville County Detention Center where he faces another charge of attempting to escape. No officers were injured in the pursuit.
