GREENVILLE, S.C. -

New details have been released about a reported explosion in a motel room in Greenville County early Monday morning. The explosion was reported at the Quality Inn at 1314 South Pleasantburg Drive at 5:28 a.m.

According to Lt. Tim Ridgeway with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, investigators are now looking at this case as a possible homicide. Ridgeway says the GCSO is also sending an investigator down to northern Georgia to interview someone that may be related to the case. The person was arrested on separate traffic charges in Georgia Monday night.

The GCSO says the reason the vehicle was stopped in Georgia was because it came from the motel parking lot and was registered as a BOLO.

Greenville County Sheriff's Office deputies and members of the Gantt Fire Department were called to the motel. A woman's body was found inside the room where the reported explosion took place.

People staying in surrounding rooms were evacuated.

GCSO investigators are interviewing witnesses in the Quality Inn lobby. Four members of the HAZMAT team suited up and are investigating inside the room where the dead woman was found.

Her name has not been released.

The Quality Inn is a 101 room facility. Motel officials tell us 45 of the rooms were occupied and the situation will affect about 30 guests.

They will be transferred to other rooms in the motels. Many of those guests rent by the week.

Investigators are asking anyone with information pertaining to this incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.
