The North Carolina division of Veteran Affairs released its annual report Thursday morning. 

North Carolina is home to nearly 800,000 veterans making the state ninth in the country.

Director of Veterans AffairsIlario Pantano said the numbers are good, but there is always an opportunity tomake them great.

"There's a lot of really good news in this report and we arehappy about the places where North Carolina is in a top position in thenation," he said.  "I think the report is reallyimportant because it shows that we're very serious here with stategovernment and trying to be more transparent"

A total of $4.2 billion was spenton veteran affairs, making North Carolina sixth in the country.
