JONESVILLE, S.C. -
A school bus driver in Union County is facing a charge after an accident Thursday morning that left some students with injuries.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the accident happened at 7:15 a.m. on Whitlock Lake Road near Morris Farm Road.
Robert D. Holden was at the wheel of a 1988 International school bus. He was driving south on Whitlock Lake Road when the bus ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
There were 35 students on board the bus at the time of the accident. All were taken to Wallace Thomson Hospital. The Highway Patrol told us earlier there were some injuries reported, but none believed to be serious in nature.
Holden was charged with driving too fast for conditions by troopers.

We checked with the hospital and all of the students had been released by around noon Thursday.
The Union County Schools Superintendent Kristi Woodall released this statement:

A school bus accident occurred around 7:15 A.M. Thursday morning on Whitlock Lake Road.  There were no other vehicles involved.  Fortunately, no life threatening injuries were reported.  All of the students were offered medical treatment at Wallace Thomson Hospital.  Six were transported to the hospital by ambulance, and sixteen arrived on another school bus.

We appreciate the patience of the parents and family members as well as the response and compassion from the local hospital district, law enforcement, EMS, and first responders from other agencies.

We asked Superintendent Woodall more questions about how the district keeps students safe and what punishment the bus driver may face. She refused to meet with us on camera.
We turned to the Department of Transportation for answers about what bus drivers are required to do before they can drive a bus.
They told us bus drivers are hired individually by the district but must go through state certification.
You must be 16 or older, not have or have had in the past year more than four points against your license, you must complete the bus drivers classroom training program and complete a physical performance and commercial driver's license skills test.
