Teacher, Coach Charged With Sex Crime Involving Student

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. - A former teacher and baseball coach at Shannon Forest Christian School in Greenville is charged with a lewd act on a minor and indecent exposure.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office says it received a report February 7 that the man inappropriately touched a student who was 12 years old at the time. Investigators with the Crimes Against Children say the boy accused Christopher Stuart Kay of masturbating in front of him several times between August 2010 and June 2011. The accuser also says Kay touched him once in the locker room. Kay was a teacher as well as the baseball coach for Shannon Forest at the time of the alleged incident.

Shannon Forest Christian School says it was unaware of the accusations involving the former teacher and former student until recently. SFCS says Kay was fired in 2011 for performance reasons.

The school released a statement that says:

"SFCS does not condone, support or tolerate inappropriate behavior by any administration, faculty or staff member. Per the SFCS Employee Manual, employees must agree that their "lifestyle and behavior, both on and off campus, should reflect the highest Biblical standards of morality, self-discipline and Christian commitment." All employees are held to this standard. SFCS plans to cooperate fully with all agencies regarding any pending investigation."

Kay was arrested on Friday.

7 On Your Side has learned that Kay is currently employed at Spartanburg Day School where he is listed as a physical education teacher and varsity baseball coach.

Officials there say Kay has been placed on leave.  This is their full statement:

"Spartanburg Day School was recently advised by law enforcement authorities that an employee, Stuart Kay, has been accused of misconduct prior to his employment at SDS. Upon law enforcement’s notification to the school, Kay was immediately placed on a leave of absence from all duties with SDS and will remain on leave until the official investigation into this matter is complete."

Investigators tell us they do not know if there are other accusers. They have only received this one child's report.
