GAFFNEY, S.C. - An early morning fire caused damage to a popular Gaffney restaurant.

Gaffney Fire Marshal Scott Coleman said that firefighters from all three Gaffney Fire Departments along with the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to the Colonial Fish Camp restaurant on Cherokee Avenue around 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to Coleman, workers were in the restaurant at the time of the fire and noticed it was coming from the cooking hood vent system. The workers attempted to extinguish the fire but the heat from the fire proved to be too much and spread to some roofing materials and then in between the roof and ceiling space.

Firefighters managed to get the fire knocked down quickly but it took them a couple of hours to reach the space where most of the damage occurred. The interior of the building suffered only water damage but Coleman said that the business will be closed for a short time while repairs are made.

No injuries were reported.
