SPARTANBURG, S.C - Byrnes High School named Woodruff head coach Brian Lane to guide its Football program Monday.

Lane, a former Byrnes quarterback and assistant coach, was the likely successor to Bobby Bentley, who stepped down from the job three weeks ago to join the staff at Auburn.

"It is with great pride that Byrnes High School welcomes Coach Brian Lane back “home” to lead the Rebel football team," a release from Spartanburg District 5 stated.

Lane posted a 46-17 record at Woodruff in six seasons and his 2011 team played for a 2A state title.

The past two seasons his teams combined for a 12-11 mark, including 5-6 in 2013.

Spartanburg District Four superintendent Rallie Liston said Monday that Woodruff will immediately begin its search for a successor for Lane with the goal of getting a new coach in place by the end of the month.
