Wofford Says NCAA Appearance Big Win for Enrollment

Posted: Updated:
SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. - It was a win that impressed even the biggest of Terrier basketball fans. Wofford (15) won the Southern Conference championship. Now the team is headed to Milwaukee to play Big 10 Michigan (2) in the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament.

“Everyone is freaking out that we even made it this far,” said Wofford senior Megan Holmes.

“I think it is great we are playing the biggest school in the NCAA tournament, and we're the smallest school in the NCAA tournament,” said Wofford College senior Evie Kytan.

This will be Wofford’s third NCAA basketball tourney appearance in five years.

“You really can't buy the kind of recognition and publicity we're going to get over the next week,” said Wofford Director of Athletics Richard Johnson.

Vice President for Enrollment Brand Stille says both times the school saw an 8 percent increase in applications and an 8 to 10 percent increase in campus visits. Now the school wants to plug into that publicity again.

“One of our goals is to grow enrollment from beyond our tradition markets, beyond South Carolina to recruit more students beyond South Carolina,” said Stille.

Wofford says it is now tracking web traffic, social media and just how far that undying Wofford spirit will go.

Tip-off is 7:10 p.m., and the game will be aired on 7 On Your Side as part of CBS' NCAA Tourney coverage.

7 On Your Side's Todd Summers will be traveling with the Terriers, and will bring you inside coverage of the team's trip.
