COLUMBIA, S.C. -

David Longstreet  is urging lawmakers to pass Emma's Law that would require ignition interlocks. His 6-year-old daughter, Emma, was killed January 1, 2012, because of a drunk driver. It happened as the family was headed to church. Billy Hutto Jr., had been drinking all night and ran a red light and slammed into the Longstreet's van.  Emma died instantly. Her three brothers were hurt along with her father and mother, who was critically hurt.

Hutto Jr., was convicted for Emma's death, and is serving 9 years in prison. He was a repeat DUI offender.

The Longstreets have had a bracelet campaign. Now, David Longstreet is traveling the state and stopped in Myrtle Beach Monday to hand out bumper stickers and get local business to try and help change the state's DUI laws.  The bumper sticker reads "Tell your Legislator: Pass Emma's Law. Save lives, reduce DUI #EmmaLawSC".

Longstreet said legislation that bears his daughter's name, could save lives as well as millions in taxpayer dollars. Last year there were more than 350 DUI-related crashed in South Carolina.  Responding to crashes and bringing people to trial, costs taxpayers plenty.

Longstreet wants ignition interlocks installed for all repeat DUI offenders and first time offenders with a blood alcohol concentration of .12 or greater.

The measure is before a subcommittee in the House Judiciary Committee and they will meet Thursday March 20 to discuss it further.
