Simpsonville PD Remove Grounsell Protest Banner; Woman Charged

Posted: Updated:
SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. - A protest banner got a local woman arrested. It popped up last week at the Hillpine Street bridge in Simpsonville, asking reinstated Police Chief Keith Grounsell to give up his back pay so the money could be used for bridge repairs.

Police said the banner was a traffic hazard and took it down. Officers charged Dixie Nance with disorderly conduct. She was released on bond.

Simpsonville City Council may give Grounsell more that $100,000 back pay. It's part of negotiations after reinstating him as chief in February. Grounsell was fired in December 2012 just three months into the job. At the time, city council said it was for not living up to the standards of a police chief and divulging classified information.
