ANDERSON, S.C. - At least eight people are without a home after a fire broke out at an apartment complex in Anderson.

The Anderson City Fire Department responded to Fairview Gardens Apartments on Williamston Road Thursday night around 11.

According to Anderson City Fire Battalion Chief Michael Guest, the fire was out as of 12:30 a.m. Friday morning. Battalion Chief Guest says there are a total of four units damaged and eight to 10 people are displaced.

Battalion Chief Guest says the fire appears to have started in the kitchen of a bottom unit and burned through the roof. The flames consumed both stories in the original apartment and that apartment is completely destroyed. A second unit, right beside the unit where the fire originated, is about 50% destroyed with water, smoke and fire damage. He says there is smoke and water damage in two other units.

As of 12:45 a.m. Friday, firefighters were still working on putting out the hotspots.

Firefighters from two other stations responded to help. There were at least 15 firefighters from Anderson City on scene.

The investigation is still ongoing, but the fire appears to have started in the kitchen.
