MARS HILL, N.C. -
The U.S. Forest Service has planned a prescribed burn for 450 acres of land in the Pisgah National Forest.

The burn is set for the week of March 31 off of Max Patch Road, approximately 25 miles northwest of Asheville.

No roads or trails will be closed during the prescribed burn, but visitors to the Pisgah National Forest should be aware of smoke and fire engines in the area.

Forest Service officials say the burn will reduce fuel on the floor of the forest which will prevent catastrophic wildfires.
