Mother Accused Of Hitting Daughter With Hair Straightening Iron

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. -

A mother has been arrested after authorities in Greenville County say her daughter showed up to school with a cut on the back of her head, which was still bleeding.

The woman is charged with unlawful neglect of a child.

Investigators tell us her 13-year-old daughter arrived at Tanglewood Middle School and was taken to the school nurse for her injury.

Officials say they found out she got into a fight over a cell phone with the mother, who allegedly hit her daughter in the back several times with her hands, then with a hair straightening iron, causing the injury.

School officials reported the incident to the sheriff’s office, which later arrested the mother.

The child was taken to the hospital and treated. The state Department of Social Services has taken custody of the child.

At a hearing, the mother's bond was set at $10,000.

The Greenville County Detention Center confirms that bond was posted, Saturday.
