Farmville ends payment plans for cemetery fees

Posted: Updated:
FARMVILLE, N.C. -
The Town of Farmville votes to end payment plans for cemetery fees.

Town Manager, David Hodgkins, says for several years the town sold cemetery plots for a flat rate. If some did not have the money upfront, the town offered a 12-month payment plan interest free. Hodgkins says if the balance wasn’t paid after one year, the balance started to accrue interest.

In March the town voted to end the payment plans after finding a significant number of accounts that were unpaid or in delinquent status.  As a result, the town voted to end the payment plans and require payment from delinquent accounts.

Hodgkins says letters have been sent out to the delinquent account holders saying they have until May 31st, 2014 to pay the remaining balance, or the town will take back the lot.

From now on the Town of Farmville will no longer offer financing for plot purchases.
