NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. -
Four teenagers - accused in a murder case in Tennessee - are scheduled to be in court for a detention hearing in Abbeville County Monday.

The Newberry County Sheriff's Office reports the four suspects - all arrested in that county last week - must appear in family court because of their ages.

The nearest court available to Newberry County is in Abbeville County. The hearing is set for 2:00 p.m. Monday.

Family Court hearings are closed and the public and media are generally not allowed to view the proceedings.

The three males and one female were wanted in Tennessee for murder charges on April 2, but were spotted early the next morning at a rest stop in Newberry County.

A South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper determined they were in a car that was connected to the crime in Tennessee. The trooper chased them on the interstate and through Newberry before their car was halted by stop sticks near U.S. 176 and Highway 34.

The four suspects ran into some woods which led to an extensive search of the area involving around 100 officers. A tip to 911 led authorities to spot the suspects and eventually capture them.

Newberry County is working with Tennessee authorities to begin the extradition process according to Sheriff Lee Foster.
