Greenville Walmart shooting suspect makes court appearance

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Greenville Walmart shooting suspect made his first in-court appearance Monday morning.

Greenville Police say 23-year-old Lakim Faust shot one person outside Kellum Law Firm and then shot three other people in the parking lot on Greenville Boulevard on June 21st, 2013.

Faust is charged with four counts of attempted first degree murder. Court documents say the shootings were racially or religiously motivated.

Faust’s lawyer asked for an administrative continuance. The District Attorney wants to set a new trial date.

Faust’s lawyer says there are a lot of documents and discovery to go through for the trial, and is asking for time for possible psychological and psychiatric evaluations to be done. The lawyer says the nature and attention to this case warrants more time before trial.

The District Attorney anticipates the trial to last two weeks, while the defense anticipates four.

A pre-emptive trial date was set for January 20th, 2015.
