State targeting underage drinking

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. - Across the state, the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission is launching an initiative to crack down on underage drinking.

It's using April as the starting month since its Alcohol Awareness Month.

“This is a matter of utmost importance to me, to the ABC Commission, to law enforcement, and the people of North Carolina,” NC ABC Chairman Jim Gardner said in a press release. “The ABC Commission will be working hard to assist North Carolina parents and school children in understanding the often tragic consequences of underage drinking on individuals and the state economy.”

The NC ABC expects to use ideas from non-profit and local groups to develop a statewide campaign.
