Red Cross, other agencies respond to Beaufort County tornado damage

Posted: Updated:
BELHAVEN, N.C. - Beaufort County, especially Beech Ridge Road, was hit hard by Monday afternoon’s tornado. But people in the area aren’t focusing so much on the destruction as the teamwork needed to recover.

Multiple aid groups, including the Red Cross, are on the ground assisting residents. They say their main focus is to do whatever they can to help folks get back on their feet.

The Red Cross' Johnie Williams says disasters like these bring out the best in people.

"It's a shame a disaster has to happen, but it's just a way for everyone to take a minute and be thankful for what they have and say, ‘How can I help’," said Johnie Williams, American Red Cross.

The Red Cross not only helps out the residents on Beech Ridge Road, they'll also be providing for other response teams and aid groups responding to the tornado’s aftermath.

"We'll be feeding the area, all the response workers, all the clients, and people affected by the tornados,” he added. “We're feeding the Salvation Army. We'll be here tonight feeding dinner."

Even though there are several aid groups as well as family and friends helping out, there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done.
