Beaufort Co. wreck turns up stolen items and drugs

A Washington man is behind bars after a motor vehicle crash that involved a pedestrian. The accident happened April 2, around 12:31 p.m. on River Road.

Akeem Javal Williams, age 23, is now in the Beaufort County Detention Center charged with Possession of a Firearm by Felon,
Simple Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He also faces charges related to the wreck.

Witness reports lead deputies on a search that turned up a Ruger 9 mm handgun from a wooded area near the scene. An additional search of the vehicle involved in the crash turned up marijuana, assorted drug paraphernalia, a game system and other electronics. Two financial transaction cards were also found in the vehicle.

After further investigation several other items found in the vehicle were identified as items recently stolen from locations in Pitt County. On April 7th, Williams was served with warrants from Pitt County and he's been charged with First Degree Burglary, Felony Larceny, two counts of Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, and two counts of Misdemeanor Larceny.
