Mass of the Chrism (live stream)

The annual Chrism Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Burbidge and concelebrated by the priests of the Diocese. The Mass is a public expression of the unity of the Diocese, the unity of the Bishop and priests and celebrates the institution of the Priesthood and priestly service. During the Mass, the Bishop blesses the holy oils and consecrates the Sacred Chrism to be used by all Diocesan parishes for baptisms, confirmations, ordinations and anointing of the sick in the coming year. For the first time, the Diocese will live stream the Mass for those unable to be present. The Mass is of special significance because it marks the institution of the Priesthood, the institution of Eucharist and the commandment of fraternal charity, as witnessed by Jesus washing the feet of his disciples. During the Mass, Bishop Burbidge will wash the feet of selected Cathedral parishioners. The Mass concludes with the procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the Altar of Repose. The Mass is followed by quiet Adoration until midnight. Church bells and organ will not be sounded again until the Easter Vigil.
