Homewood woman surrenders in connection to Shelby County drugs smuggled in Bibles

SHELBY COUNTY, AL - A Homewood woman has been released from the Shelby County Jail in connection to an investigation of drugs smuggled into the correctional facility using Bibles.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Angelia Whitman, 48, surrendered on April 6 and was released on $20,000 bond.  She was charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

On Friday, April 4, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office released that six people had been arrested after a drug was found inside a Bible.

The sheriff’s office says they are still waiting for four additional suspects to surrender.
